At the weekend I decided to cut my hair a bit. I usually do it myself, but this time I have decided that my hair needs a professional touch. The girl was nice (well she did not really do what I asked for, but…my husband said I looked very nice).

She was talking about how difficult it is to run a business, she is so busy.

So I started to question her:

How her typical day looks like, what she does when she gets home, etc.

So that’s her answer: “I am all day at my work. I have a son, so when I get to home I need to spend time with him”.

Hmmm…

So the rest of the conversation went like this:

Me: So, what do you do to develop yourself professionally? Do you take any courses?

Her: No. I am too busy.

Me: Do you create a list of things you need to do to move forward in your business?

Her: No. I’m too busy.

Me: Do you read?

Her: No. I’m too busy.

Me: What do you want to achieve in your life and your business?

Her: I don’t have time to thing about this. I’m too busy.

This last answer just knocked me down.

So I asked myself: Why do I bother with her at all? The only answer for everything she had is “I’m too busy”.

We all are busy.

Look at my life:  I work full time, have two small kids, my husband is away frequently. Yet I manage to find time to spend time with my family, exercise, read. I take online seminars, and study other successful people. I also do all “standard” house chores (cooking, washing…and YES, my husband and kids help me with that)

If you want to find time for the things which are important to you, you must do those three things:

  1. Identify your desire/goals. Sit down in a quiet room. Make sure you have no interruptions (I usually do it late at night when everybody is already sleeping). THINK. Think about what’s important in your life. What do you want to achieve and how you want your life to look like in the future.
  2. Make a list of all the things you need to do to accomplish your goals.
  3. Make a list of all the things you MUST stop doing in order to find time for the things from point 2.

You will always be busy; and i mean BUSY – that is just the nature of life. But it is your choice what will you trade to own the future – to lead  that kind of life  you’ve always wanted. It is your choice how you are going to use the time you are given.

And get this meaningless phrase “I’m too busy” out of your dictionary. NOW!

To your happiness…
